Lakeside Speedway played host to the Kubota High Limit Racing “Hasty Bake Kansas City Clash” on Friday, May 9, 2025, bringing winged sprint car excitement to the heart of Kansas City during NASCAR race weekend. The event featured a $20,000 winner’s purse, 33 High Limit Series entries, and a near-capacity crowd eager for high-octane action.
Qualifying, Dash and B-Feature Highlights
- Dash (FK Rod Ends, 7 laps): Former Dash king Kerry Madsen outdueled Austin McCarl and defending feature champion Rico Abreu to grab the lone Dash victory of the night, securing a front-row starting spot in the A-Main.
- B-Feature (Winters Performance, 12 laps): Tanner Thorson topped the B-Feature field, earning the final transfer position into the 30-lap main event alongside Ayrton Gennetten and Daison Pursley.
The 30-Lap A-Main: Kansas City Clash
In a fiercely contested main event, early momentum swung rapidly as Austin McCarl rocketed to the lead from the pole, pacing the opening six circuits before mechanical issues forced his retirement on lap 10.
Former Lakeside victor Kerry Madsen then assumed command, leading laps 7–10 in his No. 55 before tangling with eventual winner Rico Abreu in a battle for the point. The collision ended Madsen’s charge and left him nursing a heavily damaged sprint car.
As the field shuffled, NASCAR champion Kyle Larson and series stalwart Brad Sweet, both running among the top five, suffered separate incidents that abruptly ended their nights in crashes just outside the podium hunt.
From lap 11 onward, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu asserted control, leading the final 20 laps with precision and poise to capture his second High Limit Series triumph of the season. Tyler Courtney mounted a late-race charge but settled for second, while Justin Peck hustled from a mid-pack start to secure a career–best third-place finish.
